Sudan: Two Years of Silence, Displacement, and Resilience
A Call from SSAWORG for Urgent Global Solidarity
On April 15, 2023, conflict erupted in Sudan. Two years later, the world remains largely silent — but the suffering has only grown louder. Over 13 million people have been displaced, making Sudan one of the largest and fastest-growing displacement crises in the world. Entire communities are fleeing violence, hunger, and fear, with women and children bearing the heaviest weight.
The numbers are staggering.
1 in 3 Sudanese is displaced — nearly 13 million people
24.6 million face acute food insecurity
637,000 are in famine-like conditions (IPC 5)
17 million children are out of school
Only 25% of health facilities are still operational
Diseases like cholera, dengue, and malaria are spreading rapidly
Explosive remnants litter conflict zones, increasing civilian casualties
3.2 million people, mostly women and girls, are at risk of gender-based violence
These aren’t just numbers. These are lives. Families torn apart. Classrooms abandoned. Fields left to dry. Futures paused indefinitely.
SSAWORG: Building Action Beyond Awareness
At SSAWORG (Support Survivors of African War), we believe that justice begins with listening — deeply — and acting collectively. Our work lies at the intersection of agroecology, decolonial resistance, care, and creative worldmaking. And in this moment, we are mobilizing.
We are preparing a humanitarian aid container destined for Sudan, filled with essential supplies: food, medical aid, clothing, and educational resources. But more than that, we are creating a platform for collective action — a space where voices from the diaspora, from the margins, and from the frontlines can be heard, amplified, and supported.
The Silence Must End
Sudan is not a trending topic. It is a human catastrophe — and an opportunity for global solidarity. We invite you to join us in refusing silence.
