SSAW in Cuneo

As SSAW – Support Survivors of African War, we would like to share and honor this important moment spent in the City of Cuneo.

First of all, our heartfelt thanks go to Francesca, who invited SSAW to present our work to the community of Cuneo. Her invitation created a space of trust, listening, and genuine exchange around Sudan and the humanitarian crisis that continues to affect its people.

The event was hosted by Arcipelago Cuneo, in their new space in the heart of the city—a beautiful and welcoming place dedicated to solidarity, community building, and social activities. Spaces like this are essential, they allow voices to meet, stories to be shared, and collective awareness to grow.

The presentation was led by Khalid Abaker, founder of SSAW, who delivered a clear and deeply informative slide presentation to the Cuneo community. Through context, history, and lived experience, he helped shed light on the current war in Sudan and on why this conflict remains so often invisible at the international level.

The evening was also a moment of cultural sharing. Ahssan Nagem, co-founder of SSAW, prepared traditional Sudanese food—Agashè, Kushari, and Tammia—bringing taste, memory, and care into the gathering. Sharing food became another way of building connection and solidarity.

During the discussion, Yagoub Muhamed, SSAW’s logistics coordinator, offered an important intervention on international interests in Sudan, helping link local awareness to global political and economic dynamics behind the conflict.

The day began earlier with a visit to Ashraf Khair SSAW Volunteer in the city of Torino, a meaningful moment of exchange before traveling on to Cuneo. We returned late at night, driving carefully through the rain—tired, but deeply strengthened by the people we met and the conversations we shared.

Thank you to Arcipelago Cuneo, to Francesca, and to everyone who joined us.
Moments like these remind us why SSAW exists: to make silenced stories heard, to build bridges between communities, and to turn solidarity into action.
