SSAW in Rome for the Draft the Future II Project

The Support Survivors of African Wars (SSAW), as a member of CODIASLO (Coordinamento Diaspora Lombardia), participated in the meetings of 29 and 30 June 2026 in Rome for the planning of the project Draft the Future II – Diaspora for Development Cooperation.
The project, promoted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Coordinamento Italiano delle Diaspore per la Cooperazione Internazionale (CIDCI), aims to strengthen the role of diaspora organizations within the Italian development cooperation system.
Our Khalid Abaker, in his capacity as Legal Representative of SSAW, CODIASLO Delegate, and Secretary of CIDCI, took part in the proceedings representing the SSAW Association and the Lombardy network.
Monday 29 June 2026 — IOM Headquarters, Via L. G. Faravelli, Rome Operational planning day dedicated to CIDCI members. Key topics included: project programming, contractual aspects of the IOM-CIDCI partnership, operational management, thematic working groups, and the proposed establishment of the DCAB (Diaspora Climate Advisory Committee).
Tuesday 30 June 2026 — Farnesina, Rome Meeting organized by the DGCS (Directorate General for Development Cooperation) of the MAECI (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) with diaspora representatives and IOM. An opportunity for institutional dialogue to consolidate the positioning of diaspora organizations in the international cooperation landscape.
The participation of SSAW in these meetings confirms our active commitment to promoting the voice and contribution of the SSAW community in development cooperation at the local, national, and international levels.
Next steps: CIDCI will launch in the coming months activities for network consolidation, training for diaspora organizations, and access to funding for development and humanitarian assistance projects in countries of origin.
